Crispin let the little female press close to him. He could feel her trembling and pulled out a strong wing to shield her from view and harm. He didn’t know what was about to take place, especially when his other brother came out of the sky, landing on the back of the other Heus. This female he had didn’t seem used to the ideas of death and torment like they did. She seemed so innocent . . . and so fragile. He placed his head on top of hers, gently push her head down so that she was completely hidden behind his wing; she was so tiny!
The other female barked out an order to the male Soliel had been bothering and the male finally turned and ran. He pricked his ears at the sound of Chic’s voice and stood, relieved to see Soliel following orders for once.
“Come,” he whispered to the frightened fae beside him. “You are safe now. We will take you home.”
He nudged her gently with his wing, keeping her close. He took one last look over his shoulder as a black female dashed out from the trees and for a moment, he stiffened. But upon hearing her words, he smiled boldly; that was two rescues today. They had done well – their mother would be proud. Over head, Soliel was celebrating and flying higher. But Crispin was grounded now, which seemed oddly fine with him. Picking up the pace, he guided his new charge to safety, not to sure where his brothers were going but it didn’t matter. They would end up in the same place anyway – they would meet again soon.
As long as that knot head stays out of trouble . . .
