Grhym’s long fur hung off his lanky body, blowing softly as he stood motionless on the grasslands. He scented the air and grinned softly. It was changing, the air. Shadow was leaving.
Good riddance.
Of course, that didn’t excuse the fact that it also meant that the Heus, assuming there were any, would be coming alive once more. And he was sure there were some. He hadn’t been able to check it out when he wanted to; he didn’t want Lelu following him or Vithali getting curious. The Heus were dangerous . . . he cast his amber eyes to the Mountains.
But he wanted to get information for Rahiel. She deserved that chance.
For a moment he was lost in the bliss of Sun Crest, his eyes glinting in the sunlight as their white peaks towered close to him. He remembered his pup hood there, spent amongst his winged elders, now only faint memories. Sometimes, he so longed to be back there. He would never join a pack, his nature was not for that of pack life. Perhaps when he was older and more fragile, assuming he lived that long, but for now, the life of a loner suited him just fine.
Besides, having Lelu for company was enough pack for him. She kept him sane through the winter . . . that was more than he could have asked her.
He scented the air again, looking for something to eat. He was tired of small game and more herds of hoofed beasts were arriving. With Lelu, the two of them had a chance at something sick and old at least, and it would be more than enough for the two of them, allowing them to stay and rest in one place for a while. He looked over his shoulder, wondering if she was close by.
He was ready for a hunt.

Lelu ran through the woods, looking for Grhym. He seemed to disappear a lot, but today they would be hunting. She was sure of it. The food was plentiful on that Burgeon was here! Lelu ran so quickly, happy that the Shadow was over! Lelu howled to the sky in joy that the snow was gone and the creatures large and small were coming out to bathe in the sunlight.
Lelu was so excited that she didn't see Grhym until she ran right into his side. She ducked away immediately and whimpered quickly, "Sorry! I was just so excited that the Shadow was over! I didn't mean to run into like that! I'm very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very sorry! REALLY! I am!"
Lelu really was sorry. She really hadn't seen Grhym at all. It was just good to known that the Shadow was gone and Burgeon was here. That was always good. And they had both managed to stay sane through the Shadow and had stuck together.
"So! Are we hunting or what? It's going to be fun, I bet!" Lelu said, happier than a butterfly free from it's cocoon. She wagged her tail happily and sat down. She gave the biggest grin she could ever give.
Then, she saw something move at the corner of her eye. Lelu turned her head and saw a deer munching on the grass just beyond a couple of trees. She turned her body in that direction and stood very still for a long before whispering, "He don't look too tough. Want to hunt him?"

Hey there Grhym and Lelu! I would just like to point out that posts should contain at least two, five sentence paragraphs. I'm not too worried, but watch those sentences! Getting deeper sentences will give your fellows more to use in their posts and makes the experience more real all around. Keep up the good work, just make sure you meet the requirements! Wolfling

Grhym grunted as Lelu ran into him. He quickly regained footing, the grace of his Sasriel blood saving him once more. He smiled down at her, knowing that she didn’t mean it, even as she gave her long, heartfelt apology. He couldn’t help but chuckle softly at her and nudged her playfully – such a distinct fae in her own right. He had hadn’t seen hide nor hair of her as of late, but it never to please him when she did come around. He hadn’t much life in Raven Wing otherwise. Sure, he had picked up the occasional new scent here and there but he had never found their owners. With a sigh, Grhym faced Lelu, amber eyes looking older than he really was.
“No apologies needed, my friend. I have grown well used to your antics by now.” He smiled broadly at her. “It’s good to see you.”
He worried however, that in her excitement, her voice may have frightened away a potential meal. He stood stalk still, praying that wind would not change direction. Tentatively, he scented the air, ears pricking excitedly as he caught something . . . He looked at Lelu when she spoke and slunk down as he saw the deer not far from them. It was intent on improving its diet it seemed; an advantage. It was scrawny, but had enough meat to feed them. Instantly Grhym began looking for the best way to take it down, using just both of them. His eyes darted around their setting.
“Yes,” he murmured, still in thought.
Lelu was smaller than him, he noted. If she could get to the throat, she curl her body up just enough so that her weight would bring the beast down. It wouldn’t take much, especially if Ghrym could hamstring it. It was a young buck, so the antlers didn’t worry him. He flicked an ear as he spied those hooves though; hooves could kill. He had witnessed that first hand.
“Okay.” He whispered, leaning close to Lelu. “You’re smaller than me, so I’ll let you have the throat. Avoid his front hooves at all costs. Arc around his left side, and I’ll come at an angle to his right. I’ll try and go for the hind legs and get him to go towards you. If things go the wrong way, run. Even the weakest prey have a survival instinct that we don’t want to mess with. He’s weaker than we are right now; if anything, we can run him down by pure exhaustion.”
He tensed as he felt the wind pick up, blowing the opposite direction. He cursed silently and lay so low to the ground he was nearly flat with it, still as stone. The deer’s head raised alertly and for a moment, Grhym was sure that they would just have to chase it down, but after several tense moments, the beast lowered its head and continued to graze.
Grhym let out a slow breath and turned to look at Lelu once more. She was anxious, he could tell.
“Ready?” he mouthed. With the grin of a hunter, he nodded for her to move out and he took his mark as well.
As he positioned himself where he figured he’d be most helpful, he waited for Lelu’s howl, the one that would start the hunt.
He just prayed that this would end well.

Lelu listened to Grhym's instructions and listened well. She had hunted deer before, but that had been when she was with her family. Lelu kept her thoughts on the now so she wasn't distracted by her memories of her family. That wasn't the most important thing right now. Filling their empty stomaches was.
Lelu saw him get low to the ground and mouth, "Ready?" She smiled and mouthed, "I'm ready! Let's hunt!"
Grhym gave her a the grin of a hunter and nodded for her to move. She did so quickly and silently. She slowly crept around the deer, careful not make a sound. Once, she thought she had actually made a noise because the deer's head darted up, looking around in alert, but was relieved when it put its head back down and continued to eat. She continued to go around.
Finally, Lelu was around the deer and lay low to the ground for a moment. She was sure the deer hadn't noticed either of them and was too busy eating the grass. Lelu sat up quickly, took a breath, and howled loudly. Before the deer had a chance to move, she charged forward. The deer had barely started to run when Lelu grabbed onto it's throat and wrapped her limbs and body around its neck.
The deer soon began to struggle, trying to loosen Lelu's grip, but in vain. Lelu held on with a grip of a grizzly bear and did not let go. She wouldn't let go until the deer was dead.

Ghrym remained stock still, bright amber eyes glinting as he waited patiently. He licked his lips, already savoring the taste of sweet deer meat. He had gone so long without it and anxiously hoped that this would be an easy catch. His muscles tensed suddenly, the sound of Lelu’s howl coming right on time. As expected, the deer was instantly dashing away . . . with Lelu on its heels. Thinking itself home free with only one wolf to rid itself of, Grhym knew he’d have to act fast. Lelu had sprung to its throat in a heart beat. Smiling, he lurched out towards the beast as it bucked and struggled, trying to loosen her clinging grip. But she would need his help; this beast would not go down with a fight.
Panting hard, he dodged and jumped as its sharp hooves tried several times to fend him off. Its eyes rolled and it huffed angrily. If he could get it down, then Lelu could make the death blow . . . He dodged to the left, making the beast spin wildly and made a plunge for its hind leg. A triumphant warmth spread through him as his teeth sank into flesh and the animal stumbled, trying to kick back, its hoof catching his shoulder before it hit the earth. He let go, wincing, hoping that Lelu had suffered to much on impact but just in case, he lunged at the animals hind leg again, dragging it back so it didn’t try and get up. His eyes flicked up to Lelu, seeing if she needed help as he tried his hardest to keep the animal down. He flicked his ears back as it screamed defiantly and he growled savagely.
His stomach growled too.
C’mon Lelu, you can do this . . .

Lelu held on with all her might as Grhym came into the action. Though she wasn't able to it, she sensed Grhym jumping and dodging to keep from getting hit by the deer's hind hooves as he bucked and struggled to get her off its neck, but Lelu didn't give up easy. She held on, her jaws clenching down deeper and deeper into its neck. Lelu knew that Grhym was depending on her to make the killing blow.
Lelu felt Grhym latch on, let go when the deer must have kicked him, then grab on again. Lelu gripped down on the deer's neck, trying to break it. She was almost had it. She was almost done. Gimme one more second Grhym! This guy is coming down, even if I end up getting hurt! This thought she held in her head for the last few minutes.
Finally, Lelu heard the deer's neck snap under her jaws. As it began to collapse, she let go. Dropping onto the ground on all four paws, Lelu watched the deer hit the ground, dead. She turned to Grhym and smiled a victorious smile. This would probably last them most of the week.
"WE DID IT! WE DID IT, GRHYM!" Lelu shouted, dancing in circles around the dead deer. She was very, very, very happy. They were going to eat. She sat on the ground and wagged her tail wildly. "You first, Grhym. You're the one who came up with the plan."
She waited for Grhym to start eating...

Grhym’s teeth felt as though they were being yanked from the gums but he held tight. Lelu could do this . . . he had spent enough time with her to know that she was not about to give up without a good fight. He heard the strangled cry of the deer seconds before he collapsed and Grhym let go as the body fell to the earth . . . a successful hunt! But first on his mind was Lelu and he trotted around to find her. He found her smiling at him and sighed in relief. At least she had not been hurt . . . he licked a few stray drops of blood from his maw, laughing at her enthusiasm. He danced back on his back paws and howled in their triumph, landing with a quick racing heart.
“Come,” he said through his quick panting. “We shall eat the same time. You are the one that made the death blow, after all. We make out good for a couple of loners, wouldn’t you say?”
He wagged his tail contentedly, grumbling in satisfaction as he dug in hungrily. He swallowed the meat down with the swiftness that the loner life had taught him. Growing up in these lands never guaranteed a meal and when you were lucky enough to land something like this, you had to watch out for others who would try and snag it from you. That meant eating as much as you could as fast as you could. He was lucky though; there was two of them here. So while Lelu ate, he periodically raised his head, keeping himself aware of his surroundings. A kill like this would last a while, but that also made them unable to travel if they had to. As soon they left it, he knew all sorts of willing scavengers would be out here, ready to pick the bones clean.
He licked his maw, amber eyes flicking up when he saw spurts of movement around him. He smiled slightly as ravens starting appearing out of no where and he chuckled. They would hop close and then flutter away, not certain if they were allowed to share or not, but he had always had a special connection with the raven. They were scavengers, and perhaps the most intelligent ones. He allowed a few to pick at the rougher bits of the carcass but would give a warning growl when too many drew near.
When the scent of a coyote caught his nose, Grhym drew up stiffly and growled savagely, fur standing on end. To his surprise, the small beast approached him, cautiously, eyes wide and hungry.
“Hunt your own meal.” Ghrym snapped, leaving Lelu’s side to approach the coyote.
It stood there for a moment and Ghrym issued another warning snarl, lunging testily towards the coyote. The coyote bolted around him, snapping back at him as it tried to inch closer to their kill. Ghrym made a lunge for the coyote, going for the neck when the small canine whipped around and locked its jaws on Ghrym’s neck. With angry, pained snap, Ghrym whipped around to throw the coyote off of him, pinning the beast to the ground when it landed below him. He poked his muzzle into the coyotes face, daring him to move.
If this one had been this bold, there was a chance there others . . . coyotes were easy to kill, but Grhym didn’t want to kill the canine if he didn’t have to. But he wasn’t about to share Lelu and his kill either. Life as a loner was merciless and tough . . .

Lelu watched Grhym take the coyote down, but not kill it. She didn't like coyotes very much, but she saw the reason Grhym didn't kill it. The coyote was a fellow canine and killing it didn't seem necessary. At least, she didn't think it was necessary. Then, another smell came to her nose. More coyotes were coming.
"Grhym. This one has a group. They're coming," Lelu said, and not a moment too soon. Two more coyotes appeared, growling at their fiercest, which wasn't very scary or threatening; at least not in Lelu's mind. However, two against three was not fair in a fight.
Lelu tensed and growled furiously at the two new coyotes. She may be tiny in comparison to most wolves and/or coyotes, but she was a nasty fighter when it came down to it. She wouldn’t let them get the kill she and Grhym had brought down. Nor would she let them harm Grhym. Lelu, no matter the cost, would fight. As the bigger of the two new coyotes surged forward, Lelu jumped upon it and clamped down on one of its hind legs.
As the coyote stumbled and fell, Lelu let go of its leg. Then she saw the other coyote coming at her. She quickly turned to keep from being brought to the ground. She would be ready when this one came.
