Character's Name: Lunar
Age: 4
Gender: Male
Species: Timber wolf
Physical Description:
Lunar is a rather large wolf of 38 inches tall at the shoulder, 6 ½ feet from nose to tail, and 120 pounds. His flesh is mostly sinew and muscle, enveloped by thick coarse white and grey fur. His paws are the most disproportionate to his body, being larger than his body needs by quite a bit. Even the claws on his paws are longer and more noticeable then the average wolf. To look at, Lunar appears to be a beast, bigger all around than the average wolf and the coarse, dirty texture of his fur giving off a feeling of ruggedness. The darkest patches of his white fur are near black, found curving with the corner of his right eye is the shape of a crescent moon and also along his sides in the shape of feathered tribal wings. His eyes are bright amber in color and in the sunlight appear to almost glow. His size hinders his agility but aids his power and strength.
Personality:
Lunar has a heavy air about him, as if he’s always deep in thought. When asked a question, Lunar will answer leisurely at his own pace, which is sometimes halting and broken with contemplative silences. Sometimes, though he acknowledges the question, he may not even answer at all. His heavy atmosphere has earned him a lot of respect quickly with other wolves in the past. This isn’t to say he is often solemn, but rather considers each action carefully. He is clever and perceptive, saying he can see when a wolf is being dishonest by the way the muscles in his jaw moves. In a group discussion, it isn’t uncommon for Lunar to stand by quietly whilst others try to solve a problem then when they’ve exhausted their efforts, give a simple and practical solution that is often opted for.
Lunar also has a very high pain tolerance, and does not often share his innermost emotions or thoughts. He gives no objection to others sharing their troubles with him nor has he any problem with caring for others whether they are only pups, sick, or wounded. He is difficult to anger, very loyal, and employs the utmost trust in the wolves that he deems to be trustworthy. He prefers the company of others, whether he is participating in what they are doing or simply standing by. Sometimes, he will wander off by himself to think or nap, finding it difficult to sleep around other wolves, even his closest pack mates.
He is very evasive and often laughs off the question “What are you thinking?”
Pack: Outland
Rank: Alpha
Other:
Lunar enjoys winter and fall out of all of the seasons. He also enjoys seeing his reflection in water and can sometimes be found staring in his own eyes for long periods of time.
History:
Lunar was one male in a litter of six males and two females. His father and mother were the beta wolves of his home pack, allowed to mate in, as the alpha said “one of the lushest seasons ever seen by their pack”. They lived near a river with lots of game and in a distant local from any human danger. His childhood revolved around the water, playing and also learning to fear it. While he was close to his siblings, he wouldn’t describe them as best friends as some wolves might.
When he came of age, Lunar left his family to find a place amongst another pack or begin his own. He happened to come upon a large pack of wolves who called themselves the Daij. These wolves were a very tight knit pack of kin and friends who were reluctant to admit outsiders into their ranks, Lunar had to prove his worth as an addition to the pack rather than just another mouth to feed. He did, and immediately upon doing so, noticed a wolf named Wave.
Wave was well known in the pack as the jester; when a wolf was down he could cheer him up with his silly antics and jokes even when he wasn’t in the highest of spirits himself. He was optimistic and so full of soul it seemed to be exploding from him. Lunar and Wave became fast friends, spending most of their free time with one another. Lunar had never forged such a bond with anyone else his entire life. Wave was like the second half of his personality, together they had such times together as to never be forgotten. Lunar called Wave his brother, his blood brother.
There comes a time, however, when all good things must come to an end. Wave came back from hunting rabbits one day seemingly fine, but as time went by it was apparent to Lunar and the others of the pack that he was not. His fur began to thin and fall out in place, the muscle on his bones dissolved, his eyes lost their sparkle.
For Lunar, this was not the hard part. As Wave grew sicker and sicker, Lunar stayed by his side, wishing he could do something. And each day, Wave grew more and more bitter. The joyous personality that had made its home in Wave had left, and all that was left behind was a sour old soul who spat in Lunar’s face and bared his teeth at his once close pack mates. It broke Lunar's heart to watch his brother fade, like colors seeping from a wet cloth. In time, he began to grow bitter too; how could nature play such a cruel trick on such a kind soul as Wave's? Why, when he'd found someone to grow so close to, must they be not only taken away, but changed and altered until one couldn't see any similarities between the wolf that had been and the wolf that was?
One day, in late spring, when the pups of the pack were just coming to life, Wave passed on. Lunar suddenly felt out of place in the world, like the ocean might if the moon were to suddenly disappear and leave it to move by itself. He bid goodbye to all the wolves of the Daij,
He has continued to wander from that day forward.
