Unalaq twitched in his dreams, paws flying over the ground in his dreams as he ran after a fox. The fox had stolen his dinner . . . and he was not going to settle for that. In the den, his nose twitched as an occasional growl rumbled into his throat. His paws twitched across the earthen floor, devilishly clean since Vithali had been on her mother-to-be cleaning spree. His jaws snapped loudly in his sleep and a triumphant grin spread along his maw.
He got it!
Slowly, his eyes opened and he took in a deep breath of fresh morning hair, the scent of dew entering his nose. It had rained the night before and he could still smell the fresh, rain scented air. Stirring from the cool earth, he shook his coat free of dirt and leapt out of the shallow den, stretching his legs with a few pops sounding from his back. He yawned widely and blinked in the crisp morning air. Everything was fresh and green in the small forest part of their territory, even the moorland seem to share some blooming expanse. He trotted up to an outlook where he could see the Moorland and smiled, taking in another deep breath as spring’s warm air played with his fur. He turned and trotted around then dens.
Today felt like it would be a very excellent day!
“Rise and shine, sleepies!” he said softly.
He trotted around the den site.
“Busy day ahead! Hunting, scouting . . .”
He smiled, waiting for his pack mates to wake up and emerge. As he waited, he quietly approached the den that Vithali slept in and poked his head in, checking on her. She was due any day now . . . he just want to make sure she was . . .
His heart froze and his body grew numb.
She wasn’t there. With panic, he drew back and looked around, trying to see if she was already out. He poked his head in a few other dens but she wasn’t in any of them. Suddenly concerned for the mysterious disappearance of his pregnant pack mate, he whined anxiously.
“Vithali’s missing!” he announced. “Has anyone seen her? Can you catch any scent from her? Quickly now!”
He worried for her in this state; when there were pups involved, a number of things could go wrong . . .

Larka was roused from her sleep when Unalaq woke. She stood and streched in the widened out den. Vithali's scent was stale in the den so she slid out of it, hoping to see her talkitive packmate. No such luck. She wagged her tail at Unalaq, the wagging stopping when she heard his statement.
"What? I'll find her faster than you can say Sun Crest, Unalaq.I've already got her scent." she growled, pressing her head into Unalaq's fur. "Don't worry too much, she probably just went for a stroll." she said, licking his ear comfortingly before running quickly after the scent trail.

Heron awoke from an uneasy sleep. Dreams still echoed around her skull, oddly vivid in the morning air, nightmares really. The night had past partly sleepless, the feeling that someone needed the Warrior dominating Heron's mind. She had tossed and turned before the mossy ground had provided some rest. Then the dreams had come. Some had been bloody reminders of the Heus wars. Memories of summer dawns drenched in the previous nights bloodshed. Screams of agony still pounded in her head, creating a sharp pain behind her eyes. And still, lingering on through the dreams, the feeling that someone needed her help... And she could do nothing. She had watched frozen as her pack mates were murdered, one by one. Her limbs could not move and her voice was frozen in her throat. Unalaq, Larka, Kerisis, Sparrow, Vithali. All dead. She had woken with a jerk and Vithali's screams faded slowly away, replaced by Unalaqs chipper morning greetings.
Vithali’s missing! Has anyone seen her? Can you catch any scent from her? Quickly now!
Heron jerked quickly from her resting position, jogging quickly out of the cave. She cared for the little darling more than she let the Fae see. Vithali had carved a spot for herself in Heron's hardened heart, forcing her way into Herons coarse affection. The dreams from the previous night still vivid in her memory Heron dodged quickly around the den site, catching Vithali's scent and breathing a sigh of relief. The little dear had gone to have her pups...
Occasionally Vithali, thinking she was being sneaky, would escape to her small mother den. Once, worried for her Heron had followed her. Watching the mother to be in her work had felt... wrong to the warrior, like she were intruding into a small part of Vithali's own little world. After a quick scout around the den Heron had retreated, leaving the mother to her heavy labors.
What? I'll find her faster than you can say Sun Crest, Unalaq.I've already got her scent.
Heron jerked back to reality, suddenly tense. "Beta Larka! Wait! Do'na-!" But it was to late, Herons warning had gone unheard as the zippy Beta followed her orders. Vithali would defiantly be having company soon... With a sigh Heron turned to Unalaq, trotting over to him and licking his chin.
"Do'na worry about the little Missy. She's gone off on her own... Been a might restless lately. Somethin' is comin' our way." With a sigh Heron sat down close to her Alpha, blinking as the pain behind her eyes intensified. Something felt... Wrong to the mangled Fae. Like someone still needed her, the bloodshed in her dreams echoing into the real world. How soon before that violence became reality? Summer was just around the corner, and the Heus were alive in their caves.

Kerisis jerked awake at the sound of his Alpha’s worried voice, calling out over the den site. Very ungracefully, it leapt out of his own den, shaking dirt from his fur. He came out just in time to hear that Vithali was missing and watched as Larka took off in search for her. Was something wrong? Was she hurt? He thought about the small, happy go lucky fae, even though she had some really strange mood swings in the past several days, and instantly became worried about her. If something was wrong and they couldn’t find her . . .
Then he heard Heron’s voice and he listened intently to her words. She didn’t seem as worried. In fact, she was almost excited about something, or rather . . . a nervous, worried excited. Something’s coming our way, she said. But there was something in her voice that concerned him, put him on an anxious edge. He greeted his Alpha with a traditional lick under the chin, twitching his tail as he tucked well between his legs. He gave a brief nod to Heron, knowing well by now to keep his distance from her. Sitting down, he looked towards the direction Larka went, waiting for orders from his Alpha. It was a conflicting feeling . . . he knew that Vithali was about to have pups soon. If so, why was everyone so worried?
But everyone’s worried actions did nothing but make him more anxious and in seconds, he was on his feet again, pawing at the dirt, whisking his tail, whimpering. Did one have to help a female have her pups?
“Should we go to her?” he finally asked. “Just to make sure?”
He too had grown attached to her cheery nature and optimistic attitude. He didn’t know how he’d handle it if something bad were to happen . . .

The poor little dear. Heron Watched after Larka for a while after the Beta had disappeared from sight. This was a dangerous time for all would be mothers. Heron had watched so many mothers before Vithali; she had watched them with all their joy, sadness, and heart break. Life was such an amazing gift, and the birth of the pups was a miracle for all affected. But life, great in all its complexity was so fragilely attached to the world. So easily snuffed out, leaving behind an empty space where love could never touch again. Heron liked to think that each person she loved took a small part of her heart where-ever they went. And when they left this life, that little bit of Heron went with them. She hoped that in whatever death really was, that piece of her made them strong. She would be with them, protecting them even where she could not... Birth was a hard time for all mothers, and even more dangerous for the pups.
Blinking away her dark thoughts, Heron returned to her body. She should no worry about Vithali now, she was a strong girl. With a sigh Heron stood, shaking her mangy pelt and stretching with a mighty yawn. "Now Boyos... We'd best be lettin' Little Miss be. She know what she be doing, and Miss Beta there is goin' tah help her. Vithali donna need us now. N,ow Sah Alpha" Heron turned her attention fully Unalaq. I believe you said somethin' abou' food? Now yah canno' go teasin' me like tha' if'n you donna intend tah feed me." Heron playfully bounced in front of Unalaq, nipping at his chin.
Heron put on her best puppy face, a scary sight and grinned"Awe, come on now. Lets go hunt some food! This poor warrior is starvin' outta her skin! Pretty soon there will be nothin' left of mah beautiful hide!" To emphasize her point Heron toppled over sideways, hitting the ground with a thump, and then rolled over onto her back, exposing her stomach to the morning sky. In an awkward display of aerobics Heron grabbed the loose skin of her stomach with her teeth, looking imploringly up at Unalaq. "See now? You know wha' they say? Keep your warrior-like ones fat. Then they aint thinkin' abou' food when they should be fightin'!" Then, in a display of its own discomfort Herons stomach voiced its own complains on the issue, grumbling like a cranky elder.
